The Friction Loc baton
The Friction Loc baton is an impact-closing weapon, meaning it must be collapsed by striking it on a hard surface.
Friction Batons expand by sharply flicking the baton straight up or straight down to extend the inner shafts. Each shaft is locked rigidly in place by a precision Friction taper. To retract the baton, strike the tip of the baton sharply downward on a hard surface, such as concrete.

The mechanism batons
The mechanism batons are also called as auto-lock batons, there are the drum loc baton and the cam loc baton. They close by depressing the button or end cap and pressing the tip into your hand or into a scabbard.

The mechanism batons should never be closed by striking on a hard surface—this may damage the precision components inside, and void the warranty.
